District officials told the local board of education that educators like the curriculum because it offers professional-development resources such as videos about how to teach specific concepts.
Roofs atop three library branches in Ohio soon will receive repairs after a study last year revealed their deteriorating conditions. Roofs at the Eastlake and Willowick libraries are approaching the end of their 20-year life spans, while the one in Willoughby has problems with its flat roof section and its flashing. Repairs to the roofs are expected to cost $360,000.
The Savannah, Ga., City Council plans to pressure state lawmakers to give city governments more power over gun shows. State law prohibits city governments from regulating gun shows, including one in Savannah that councilors want to end.
Former Union City, Ga., City Manager Steve Rapson was unanimously chosen as county manager of Fayette County, Ga. Rapson was also previously budget director of Fulton County, experience that he likely will draw upon as Fayette County faces declining revenue. Rapson says his top priority is to better relationships between the county and its cities.
