Severe complications related to the use of intrauterine devices, such as ectopic pregnancy and pelvic inflammatory disease, occurred in less than 1% of about 90,000 15- to 44-year-olds, according to a report in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology. Women from all age groups had the same rate of early discontinuation of IUD use, which researchers said indicated that teens did not have a higher risk of suffering complications than adults.
