Last year's 16% increase in microcontroller unit shipments was offset by a 17% drop in average selling prices and a 3% dip in revenue because of increased pricing competition in 32-bit MCUs and unsettled economic conditions worldwide, according to IC Insights. The market research firm expects better conditions for MCUs in 2013, with revenue rising 2% to $15.5 billion and unit shipments up 10% to a record 19.1 billion. Average selling prices will be down 8% this year, IC Insights predicts.
