The U.S. faces greater risk of wildfires as a result of climate change, with about 20 million acres expected to be affected by fires annually by 2050, according to a report from the U.S. Forest Service. "We're going to have to figure out some more effective and efficient ways for adapting rather than just pouring more and more resources and money at it," said Dave Cleaves, the agency's climate-change adviser.
