For breast cancer diagnosis and care to be more personalized, there is a need to look beyond the standard screening mammography and consider the uses of other tests, according to findings from a review published in The American Journal of Medicine. "We propose that optimal patient care will ultimately require a new paradigm, with adoption of patient-specific screening strategies tailored to risk assessment based on family history, age, genetic profiles, and breast density," researchers said. Emerging tests reviewed in the study that have potential roles in this paradigm shift include molecular imaging, PEM, BSGI and automated breast density assessment.
