The issues that Royal Dutch Shell has encountered in its Alaskan offshore exploration project should serve as lessons for the company and other energy firms seeking to drill in the region, federal regulators said. The lessons include requiring drillers to improve their assessment and management of risks and making sure that specialized oil spill containment equipment is accessible. "We are going to make sure that the lessons that were derived from the Shell preliminary efforts this last year are applied ... Arctic-wide," Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said.
