Mondelez International has added a Brown Rice line to its Triscuit brand, with ingredients including sweet potatoes, brown rice and red beans to appeal to consumers who are snacking more in place of eating full meals. Print ads highlight that the ingredients are "real food," and the company said the new crackers and lighter and crispier.
Responding to increased demand for horizontal flowpack systems, Theegarten-Pactec said it is forming a research and development department for its Flowpack Systems. "We are committed to remaining in the forefield of the competition for the best ideas," said Bodo Forster, head of development and construction for the company.

Sara Lee is adding easy-to-read graphics with key nutrition information to the packages of its bread, bun and bagel products. The new Nutritional Spotlight labels are in addition to the Nutrition Facts Label required on food products.
An industry group is hoping the Food and Drug Administration will respond favorably to a request to drop its quality control requirements set for frozen cherry pies, since other fruit pies are not similarly regulated. Sara Lee Corp. says its cherry pies surpass a federal rule requiring the products to contain 25% cherries by weight.
