A telehealth bill that would mandate that South Carolina's state employee health plans pay doctors for long-distance diagnosis and treatment of patients via interactive data, video and audio communications beginning in January was approved by the state Senate's Medical Affairs Committee. The scope of the proposal was originally meant to cover all health insurance groups in the state, but it was revised to include only state employee health plans due to opposition from private insurers to the change in practice.
