The Mississippi Board of Education on April 19 approved a policy change to add graduation rates to its school-grading system for the 2012-13 school year. State officials don't yet know what affect the changes will have on schools' grades. The board also is seeking public comment on a proposal to create a new school-grading system for the 2013-14 school year and beyond. Under the proposal, multiple factors could be considered in evaluating schools, including whether they are enrolling students in college-level, Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate courses.
