The Securities and Exchange Commission might simplify the launch of uncomplicated exchange-traded funds by forgoing an application process. The proposal, reportedly in an early stage, would save time not only for ETF sponsors but also for SEC staff. "That would help issuers and their sponsors because they wouldn't have to incur the costs to file exemptive applications with us," said Norm Champ of the SEC. "And if we could get some of this relief codified, it would also free staff up."
