The nomination of Ernest Moniz as the next energy secretary cleared the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in a 21-1 vote. "From my experience working with Dr. Moniz, I believe he is more than up to the challenges that our country is going to face in this historic transition for our energy sector," said Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., chairman of the committee. If confirmed, Moniz would have to address natural gas drilling safety and exports as well as concerns associated with used nuclear fuel management.
