The slower-than-average pace of corn planting is prompting some analysts to question whether farmers can reach expectations of at least 97 million acres planted to corn this season. The Department of Agriculture pegged this year's corn acreage at 97.3 million, in line with analyst predictions. Corn traders will be closely monitoring weather patterns for the first half of May, said Kyle Tapley, an analyst for MDA Weather Services.
