Antioxidants called polyphenols, found in grapes, help organ function and may protect against developing metabolic syndrome, according to research from the University of Michigan. The animal study, reported at the Experimental Biology conference, found grape intake reduced inflammation and oxidative stress in tissues and helped the immune system regulate the heart, kidney and liver.
A new law in Suffolk County, N.Y., is the first in the nation to bar makers of energy drinks from marketing the products to minors. The ABA said it is "disappointed" with the law, noting, "the Legislature itself acknowledged that the bills were less about substance and more about sending a message. Public policy should be based of facts and science, and these Suffolk County laws are based on neither."

Berry Stimulating Maté -- a drink made with blackberry, strawberry, blueberry, Guayaki organic yerba maté, turbinado and nonfat milk -- is available at Smoothie King's more than 550 locations across the country. Yerba maté provides the energy of caffeine but without jitters, Smoothie King President Steve Kuhnau said.
