AAFP Board Chair Glen Stream, M.D., said the Obama administration's 2014 fiscal budget plan would cut graduate medical education funding for teaching hospitals and could reverse progress made in adding new family practice residency programs. The budget also calls for a 10-year sustainable growth rate fix for Medicare payments, while Stream said the Academy has called for an outright appeal of the SGR and having a period of stable payments that include higher rates for primary care.
