Assets in employer-sponsored retirement plans reached $10.9 trillion last year, an 8% increase over 2011 totals, according to a survey by MillionaireCorner.com. The majority of assets, $6.7 trillion, was in private-sector plans, while public-sector plans accounted for $3.3 trillion and 403(b) plans accounted for $882.2 billion, the survey found. Total U.S. retirement assets, including IRA accounts, were $16.3 trillion last year, according to the survey.
