The unique device identifier is on its last legs this week, and clearing up the legal gray area it inadvertently created should be a boon to mobile advertising in general and Apple in particular, TapSense Vice President of Marketing Gregory Kennedy writes. "Apple has created a legally compliant alternative called, simply enough, IFA, or ID for Advertisers that is built directly into iOS 6. Crucially it also allows users to opt out of any advertising tracking method by changing a setting at the device level," Kennedy writes.
