Lakhdar Brahimi, the United Nations and Arab League envoy to Syria, is expected to continue in his joint role, says UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. "[I]t is very important that the United Nations works together with the League of Arab States," says Ban. Brahimi will brief the Security Council about Syria on Friday.

North Korea has appealed for international food aid to combat shortages caused by bad weather, increased food prices and sanctions.
