Saint-Gobain and its subsidiary Verallia North America were awarded an Energy Star Sustained Excellence Award last week from the Environmental Protection Agency for the third consecutive year for lowering energy consumption, improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Verallia's Sapulpa, Okla., plant, which uses 960 tons of raw and recycled materials to produce 3.3 million glass bottles per day, reduced its energy usage by 7.4% last year through furnace rebuilding, compressor control system upgrades, light system replacements and programs aimed at reducing air leaks and natural gas loss.
