Iraq war veteran Carlos Figueroa chose to have his nonfunctioning left leg, injured by a bomb in 2003, amputated below the knee six weeks ago so he can work toward snowboarding in the 2014 Sochi Paralympics, despite the long road to recovery and conditioning he faces as an amputee. Figueroa is already using a monoski to begin training as he waits for his prosthesis to be delivered. "It's a slim chance, a super, super small window, but we're still going to push," Figueroa said.
