Many challenges lie ahead for leaders of the country's community colleges, according to three veteran college presidents who spoke at the recent annual meeting of the American Association of Community Colleges. One analysis shows that operating revenue is declining, as another shows about 500 community college presidents are expected to retire in the next five years. To succeed, schools must embrace public accountability and look for new funding sources in the private sector, said Harper College President Kenneth L. Ender. "By default, you've got to find a way to finance your institution."
