Some manufacturing companies have reported a trend among job applicants -- weak math skills. In fact, a spokesperson for a Washington state company said nine out of 10 applicants fail the company's math exam. Schools and others are trying to turn this trend around, in part, by linking math to the real world. National Council of Teachers of Mathematics President Linda Gojak says the association supports this change and is trying to "help teachers teach mathematics so kids make sense of what they're doing and it really does stick beyond what they learn in class."
