Nonprofit organization Worldreader is distributing its Worldreader Mobile application throughout the developing world, giving users 1,200 free e-books to read, Laura Hazard Owen writes. "Together with our growing e-reader program, Worldreader Mobile connects us to millions of the world's poorest people, providing the books they need to improve their lives," said CEO David Risher, a former Amazon executive. The majority of readers tend to be males between 16 and 35 years old, but 70% of the "power users" are women, who consume 17 books a month on average, Hazard Owen writes.
