The European Commission will institute a two-year ban on the neonicotinoid pesticides clothianidin, imidacloprid and thiamethoxam, effective Dec. 1. A European Food Safety Authority study linking the pesticides with negative impacts on honeybees prompted the action. "Clear scientific evidence has taken a backseat" in the decision, which will result in lower crop yields, said Bayer CropScience.
