The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT has issued a voluntary health information exchange framework that features security and privacy principles. The guidelines call for allowing patients to choose whether to have their data shared, as well as permitting them to have access and ask for changes to their records. "Entities that set health information exchange policy should look to the framework's principles as a way to align their work with national priorities," said National Health IT Coordinator Dr. Farzad Mostashari.
