Big firms typically claim ownership of the things their employees invent, but nickel-and-diming your most creative workers is a bad idea, says management researcher Daniel Spulber. It's better to reward your in-house inventors and let them retain a degree of ownership. "Employers should consider involving those employees in the process of developing their inventions rather than just taking the inventions and running with them," Spulber says.
