Perioperative blood transfusion is associated with worse outcomes after radical cystectomy for bladder cancer, according to a 2,060-patient study in the journal European Urology. Five-year recurrence-free survival, cancer-specific survival and overall survival were all shorter for patients who had transfusions. "While these data require external validation, continued efforts to limit the use of blood products in these patients are warranted," researchers wrote.
