School-breakfast participation has risen sharply in 10 schools in an Illinois district serving breakfast in the classroom for the first time this year. Claudie Phillips, director of food and nutrition for Elgin Area School District U-46, said ensuring students have access to breakfast is important in their success. "It's so important that we do all we can to provide the tools that they need in order to perform," Phillips said. "Breakfast is one of those, too. Sometimes these are the only meals that they get."
