The Antlers Bridge replacement project along Interstate 5 in Lakehead, Calif., is being built by Tutor Perini using the "balanced segmental construction method," and is on schedule for a 2015 completion date. As a major truck route, the new bridge is being built to last 100 years using more than 37,000 cubic yards of concrete and over 13 million pounds of steel for the deck. The original bridge "has been experiencing some minor fatigue cracking and the maintenance costs have been getting higher and higher," said Eric Akana, project manager with the California Department of Transportation.
