The Nikkei fell 0.39% to 15,037.24 while the Shanghai Composite surged 1.21% to 2,251.81 and the Hang Seng added 0.17% to 23,082.68. Elsewhere in the region, the Kospi rose 0.79% to 1,986.81, and the S&P/ASX lost 0.50% to 5,165.70.
