Companies that operate in emerging markets such as China say recruiting and retaining leaders with regional knowledge is one of their most difficult challenges. Some companies opt to relocate executives stationed in the U.S., while others are finding it more effective to identify and groom top-tier recent college graduates. "Everyone prefers leaders who are exposed to global business practices, and supply is limited," says Srini Kandula, an HR executive at iGATE.
