The number of adults with diabetes increased by 45% over the past two decades, with those 65 and older showing the largest increase in diabetes cases, according to a study in Diabetes Care. Researchers said obesity was closely linked to higher diabetes rates in younger adults, but only slightly correlated to higher rates in older patients. The results highlight the need for primary prevention initiatives in the U.S. and better health quality for older diabetes patients, researchers said.
