Doctors in Dalton, Ga., used stem cell therapy to prevent amputation of a man's foot after a cut became infected with necrotizing fasciitis. After other interventions failed, podiatrist Spence Misner treated the wound with tissue grafts embedded with human stem cells. After repeated applications of the tissue, donated by manufacturer Osiris Therapeutics, ligament, muscle, fat and skin regrew.
