Federal funding for smart-grid development has greatly benefited the U.S. economy, according to a U.S. Department of Energy report that found the investments have led to the creation of roughly 47,000 full-time equivalent jobs. A separate study by Zpryme found that more U.S. consumers are now using mobile devices to monitor their energy use, with 13.5% of adults between the ages of 25 and 34 -- many of them in the Western U.S. -- engaged in remote monitoring.
