A proposal by New York state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli that would task Entergy to transfer more used nuclear fuel from its Indian Point nuclear plant and other facilities to dry storage containers was voted down by the company's shareholders. Dry containers would mitigate the risks associated with storing the material in pools, DiNapoli said. "We are pleased with today's vote to continue with the proven process we have employed" at Indian Point, said Jerry Nappi, a spokesman for Entergy, who said both methods are safe.
