Most people who seek plastic surgery do so not to please someone else but to restore their own confidence and be happier with themselves, says Bryan Mendelson, past president of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Most also prefer privacy and often do not tell spouses or other loved ones about their decisions, and most prefer subtle results, Mendelson said. Mendelson attempts to dispel myths around plastic surgery and details the field's history in his new book, titled "In Your Face."
