One month following the implementation of a breast density notification law in California, some experts are questioning the value of the measure. Dr. Haydee Ojeda-Fournier of the University of California, San Diego, Moores Cancer Center said the role of breast tissue density in cancer risk isn't entirely clear, but it does not appear to be a major factor. Dr. Grace Bhardwaj of Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas said the law leaves a lot of questions about how to apply breast density information clinically. "We can suggest ancillary imaging to our patients with dense breast tissue, but there's no standard of care for how to work up various densities," she said.
