The five-year cure rate for "slow Mohs" excision of lentigo maligna melanoma is near 100%, compared with a 20% recurrence rate with standard excision, dermatologist Ellen Marmur said at the Hawaii Dermatology Seminar. The procedure involves staged, margin-controlled excision over the course of days, and permanent sections instead of frozen sections are rushed to the pathology lab.
