A grandson of President Franklin Roosevelt seeks to apply carbon dioxide-enhanced oil recovery to get at about 437 million barrels of oil in an area in the Permian Basin in Texas that was abandoned years ago by drillers. There is a 90% chance that Elliot Roosevelt will recover that amount of oil or more, according to estimates from Ryder Scott. "I hope other people replicate his model and take much more [carbon] out of the atmosphere than would otherwise happen," said John Thompson, director of the Fossil Transition Project for the Clean Air Task Force.
