Women over the age of 75 who consume flavan-3-ol flavanols from tea or other sources lowered their risk of atherosclerotic vascular disease mortality by 59%, finds a study published in the British Journal of Nutrition. "It appears that the cardiovascular benefits of flavanol consumption are independent of any benefits ascribable to tea," the researchers said.
