Americans need a better grasp of finances and markets, says Michael Branham, president of the Financial Planning Association. Some finance-industry groups are pushing for legislation to encourage financial literacy, but so far Congress has been slow to act. Even as financial literacy improves, however, investors will still need professional guidance, Branham said. "It will be our job to deliver advice and lead the conversation about life and money," he said.
