Senators working on a broad immigration bill are debating amendments that would expand or restrict the H-1B visa program. An amendment that was rejected by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday would require companies to make a "good faith" effort to hire U.S. workers before resorting to H-1B workers, while amendments proposed by Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, would ease restrictions on H-1B hiring. "We have come to careful balance on H-1B," Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., said.
