There have been some high-profile Kickstarter success stories, but many entrepreneurs fail to meet their targets, Laura Winger writes. A study of successful campaigns by Michael Neel indicates that more expensive projects tend to draw higher average pledge totals, but projects aiming to raise less than $3,000 show a higher success rate than do campaigns that ask for more money. The most popular pledge tier tends to be at the $25 level, and most campaigns need about 30 days to succeed, regardless of the amount of money being raised, Winger writes.
