To better prepare college students interested in careers in public transportation, a committee of industry experts is writing a curriculum that could be used at institutions by 2014. While some colleges have programs dedicated to aspects of public transportation, other schools have shown interest, but lacked an industry-based curriculum, says Jill Hough, the committee's chairwoman. Typically, students gravitate to public transportation from fields such as engineering, logistics and urban planning, she notes.
