David Sear, a professor of physical geography at the University of Southampton, has worked with a research team to use dual-frequency identification sonar to map the sunken remains of Dunwich in the U.K. Dunwich is now only a small village, but it was about as large as medieval London before much of it became submerged beneath the waves following a series of storms. Meanwhile, scientists have discovered granite off the coast of South America that some believe could be evidence of a lost land mass.
