New York City's A-train service to the Rockaways, disrupted by damage from superstorm Sandy, will be restored toward the end of this month, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The MTA said it is making improvements aimed at getting the line though the next hurricane season, which starts June 1. Long term, the agency plans to strengthen the system serving the Rockaways sufficiently to survive a Category 3 hurricane.
