U.K. researchers said updated criteria based on the Frontotemporal Dementia Consensus help clinicians better diagnose early-stage dementia and distinguish between frontotemporal lobar degeneration and other conditions, according to a report in Neurology. Measures of sympathy and empathy had the greatest specificity, and "executive/generation deficits with relative sparing of memory and visuospatial functions" were the most sensitive, the study found.
