Manufacturers of cleaning products may have to work with fewer preservatives as governments come down hard on some ingredients. "As preservation is placed under the microscope now more than ever, certain government agencies and formulators are considering limiting or banning many well-known and well-studied ingredients that have been used safely for years," said Laura Szymczak, global marketing manager for personal care preservation at Lonza. Swapping out vetted preservatives for milder substitutes could put public health at risk, said Tal Green, manager of the personal care business unit at Sharon Laboratories.
