States and the federal government could save $74.4 billion over the next decade by using pharmacy networks and negotiating market-based dispensing fees while also encouraging greater generic-drug utilization, a PCMA-commissioned study by The Menges Group found. "The good news is state Medicaid programs can dramatically reduce costs by simply applying best practices already used by Medicare and other large payers that offer pharmacy benefits," said PCMA President and CEO Mark Merritt.
