Pile driving is slated to begin today on the Hudson River as crews start prep work on a construction platform for the new $3.9 billion Tappan Zee Bridge north of New York City. Vibrating piles will be employed where possible to minimize noise of the more traditional impact hammering. "We are taking unprecedented measures to mitigate noise, vibration and air-quality issues and the monitoring system that is now on our website is a major part of that effort," said New York State Thruway Executive Director Thomas Madison.
