Boston bombing victims who lost legs may find that life with prosthetic limbs is not limiting -- and perhaps even liberating, writes Hugh Herr, who does research in bionics at the Media Lab at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Herr lost his lower legs to frostbite in a mountain climbing misadventure in 1982. With highly capable prosthetics, Herr says, he was soon able to achieve a higher level of climbing proficiency than before.
